Die Meckelschen Sammlungen und ihre Kolonialgeschichte

Die Meckelschen Sammlungen rühmen sich als eine der bedeutensten anatomischen Sammlungen weltweit. Woher die Inhalte kommen wird dabei nur selten thematisiert. Gemeinsam wollen wir die oft unsichtbar gemachten Verstrickungen von Rassismus und Kolonialismus in der Anatomie anschauen und hinterfragen. Wie kann verantwortungsvoll mit der Geschichte umgegangen werden? Was bedeutet das für die Meckelschen Sammlungen?

Der Workshop findet mit DGS-Sprachmittlung statt.

The Meckel‘s Collection and their colonial history.

The Meckel´s Collection is said to be one of the most renowned anatomical collections worldwide. However, the source and mode of procurement of their various collections is rarely discussed. In this workshop, therefore, we shall be dealing with the rationale behind these acts, and questioning, the often invisible entanglements of racism and colonialism as it relates to human anatomy. What can be deduced from these barbaric acts? How can the history be dealt with responsibly? What does this mean for the Meckel’s Collections?
